Paulean Newton, a beloved matriarch of Leitchfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on April 29, 1929, in Grayson County to the late John Saltsman and Della Mae Harp Saltsman, Paulean's life was a testament to love, resilience, and deep-rooted family values.
Married to her devoted husband Charlie Newton, Paulean's legacy lives on through their eight children, who she cherished deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband and three sons, Jimmy, Coy, and Glenn Newton, as well as her beloved sisters, Dolly Wilson, Anna Haycrat, Jewell West, Sarah Newton, and Hazel Saltsman.
Paulean had a remarkable ability to nurture not only her gardens, which flourished under her care, but also the relationships that sustained her family. Sundays were particularly special, as they brought her children and grandchildren together for hearty meals prepared with love—an event that felt like a feast for a family army. She found joy in simple pleasures, from feeding the birds outside her window to gathering with her church community, affirming her strong faith.
Paulean is survived by her children, Patty Watson (Ott), Jerry Newton (Debbie), Lewis Newton (Nellie), Hilda Decker (Roscoe), Judy Meredith (Mendell), along with 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her cherished brother, James Saltsman.
