It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Joyce Marie Carter, who left us peacefully on April 16, 2026, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, at the age of 87. Joyce, born on July 17, 1938, in Clarkson, was a cherished daughter of the late James Sylvester and Ina Clemons Pierce.
Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jeff Clark (Carol) of MS, and her daughter-in-law, Paula Hoffman of Elizabethtown. She also leaves behind her stepdaughter, Beth Gaskin of VA, and a wonderful array of grandchildren who held a special place in her heart: Greg Clark, Amanda Turton, Jayne Bush, Jenifer Clark, Melissa Hamilton, Andrew, Luke, and Michael Clark, Natalie White, and Mahala and Mariah Clark, alongside her great-grandchildren, Luxie Turton, Callie and Brenna Hamilton and Brooklyn and Katie Clark.
Joyce is survived by her siblings, including Oran Pierce (Faye), Bruce Pierce (Donna), Michael Pierce (Melanie), Dwayne Pierce (Carol), Sandra Bierly (Richard), and Ann Casebier (Bill), not to mention a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends who all adored her.
In addition to her parents, Joyce is now reunited with her beloved husband, W.R. Carter, her son, Robert Kevin Clark, and siblings Carmon Pierce, Carol Sumner, Elmo Pierce, and Phyllis Higdon, along with a stepson, Brian Carter.
Joyce lived a life rich with love, creativity, and care. A dedicated homemaker and skilled cosmetologist, she brought joy not just to her family but to many others through her beautiful creations, whether they were quilts, paintings, or knitted treasures. Known for her blue ribbons at county fairs, Joyce shared her crafts generously, leaving a piece of her heart with everyone who received her gifts.
A proud member of the St. Anthony Church and the Red Hat Ladies in Grayson County, Joyce found happiness in community and faith. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel, reflecting the vibrant life she lived.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has been chosen and will be under the direction of Leitchfield Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 12:30 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with Fr. Stephen Lalte officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM that same day at Leitchfield Funeral Home, allowing us to share stories and fond memories of Joyce together.
Joyce will be laid to rest in St. Anthony Church Cemetery, a place where her spirit and love will continue to shine. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1256 St. Anthony Road, Clarkson, KY 42726.
As we say farewell to an incredible woman, may her kindness, creativity, and cherished memories live on in our hearts forever. Online condolences can be left at www.leitchfieldfh.com.
