Rebecca "Becky" Hughes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eula Rebecca Hughes, lovingly known as Becky, who left us peacefully at her home in Big Clifty, Kentucky, on July 23, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on July 5, 1943, Becky brought joy and warmth to everyone she met throughout her life.

Becky is survived by her two beloved children, Pauletta Gawarecki (James) and Paul David Hughes (Xaviera). She was a proud grandmother to five wonderful grandchildren-Matthew Gawarecki, Michelle Allen (Jacob), Kristin Meredith (Koie), Troy Hughes, and Brett Hughes (Kierson)-and delighted in the company of her nine great-grandchildren: Finnley, LylahBeth, Sterling, Kylen, Royce, LuraJade, Teddy, Otis, and Opie. Becky is also survived by her brother, Robby Moran, and her three dedicated caregivers, Felicia Isaacs, Linda Walker, and Rebecca Howard, who enriched her life with their love and support.

Becky was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Paul Edward Hughes, her parents Troy Phelps and Earline Moran (Harry), her brother Johnny Moran, and her dear grandparents Ivan and Eular Phelps and Charlie and Natie Blunk.

Becky was a woman of many talents, having worked as a cosmetologist, a tax accountant, and a devoted homemaker. She had a gift for making others feel loved and cherished, often inviting family over to share laughter, delicious meals, and her infectious joy for life. Dancing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled her heart with happiness, and she relished evenings spent playing board games and cards with her family. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Becky's spirit of generosity made her a beloved figure in her community.

Funeral services celebrating Becky's remarkable life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Leitchfield Funeral Home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in the Hughes Family Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in visitation on Friday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and from 10:00 AM until the service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
