Listen to Obituary

Ethel Gertrude (Garner) Dupin, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, with family by her side.

Born on April 13, 1938, in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, to the late Preston Clay Garner and Bennie Frances (Cahill) Garner, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James "Jimmy" Russell Dupin; one sister, Lorah Nell "Nellie" (Garner) Dupin; and a brother-in-law, Melvin Lee Dupin.

Though Ethel had no children, she was a beloved aunt to nephews and nieces who cherished her as a mother, grandmother, confidante, and friend. She is survived by a nephew, Ronnie Smallwood; two nieces, Beverly (Dupin) Ray (H. Keith) and Linda Charnell (Dupin) Cox (Carl); a great-nephew, DeWayne Ray (Gabrielle); and two great-nieces, Carla (Cox) Scott (Joey) and Candace (Cox) Dailey (Jason). She also had seven great-great nephews and nieces. Ethel was extremely close to Beverly, who praise Ethel for her lifelong support, and she also shared a close bond with DeWayne who spent many childhood hours with Ethel. She remained close to her cousin and childhood best friend, Nadine Carwile.

Ethel was a creative, caring soul. She loved to quilt and crochet, and she could play piano chords and would often accompany herself singing hymns at home. If she was not helping Jimmy on the farm, she was tending to vegetables and fruits that she would later can for the winter. She also enjoyed doing Home Interiors and Gifts shows with Nellie all over Hardin, Grayson, and Larue Counties, among others. She was always ready to smile and laugh, centering her life around Jesus and scripture. She and DeWayne would often read Bible excerpts and discuss their meaning. Her kindness serves as an example for others.
