Listen to Obituary

Deloris Leigh Matthews, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully into eternal rest on August 23, 2025, at her home in Louisville. Born on July 21, 1930, in Sonora, Deloris was the cherished daughter of Dewey and Edna Rose McMillan Horn. At the age of 95, she leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be remembered by everyone whose lives she touched.

Deloris found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her greatest happiness came from nurturing her family-her children, grandchildren, and the many great-grandchildren who filled her days with laughter and love. She had a green thumb and loved tending to her garden, pouring her heart into every bloom. Reading and walking were also dear to her, as they gave her moments of reflection and peace.

Left to carry on her spirit are her daughters, Beverly Matthews Downey and Heather Armstrong; her cherished daughter-in-law, Dawn Matthews; and an expansive family that includes her beloved grandchildren-Michael, John, Jeremy, Missy, Aubrey, Nicole and many more-along with countless great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five siblings: David Horn, Bootsie Jenkins, Ann Lucas, Danny Horn, and Diane McMillan.

Deloris' journey was not without heartache. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Willie Matthews; her four children-Gary Matthews, Jeanne Greenup, Karen Matthews, and Kevin Matthews; several siblings who have also departed; one grandson, Khris Matthews and one great great grandson Kamdyn Luttrell. Each loss left an impact, but Deloris approached life with resilience and grace.

Family and friends are invited to honor Deloris' life and legacy during the funeral services that will take place on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 1:00 PM CST at Armstrong Memorial Gardens at 228 Pine Ridge Road, Falls of Rough, KY 40119. Bro. Jared Miller will officiate, with a burial to follow.

In this time of reflection and remembrance, we encourage everyone to share their stories and memories of Deloris-her kindness, her strength, and her unwavering love for her family. Deloris will forever remain in our hearts, a beacon of love that will guide us as we move forward.
