Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Charlotte Kay Nichols, age 76, of Leitchfield, who left this world peacefully at her home on August 12, 2026. Born on January 9, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas, Charlotte brought joy to everyone around her. She was the cherished daughter of the late Jessie Ray Smith and Mary Lillian Browning Smith. She was the devoted wife of the late Dr. Jerry Lee Nichols, who preceded her in death on October 29, 2020, after 54 wonderful years of marriage.

Charlotte was a vibrant member of her community and a pillar of strength for her family. A dedicated member of Bethel Fellowship, Charlotte spent much of her life working alongside her husband at Nichols Dental Center. She had a special way of connecting with students during her time as the "Tooth Fairy," promoting dental health in local schools. Her warmth and enthusiasm for teaching were evident when she shared her knowledge at Elizabethtown Community College for several years.

When not working, Charlotte found joy in crafting, tending to her beloved plants, and observing the gentle beauty of nature through bird watching. She was also known for her adventurous spirit, participating in mission trips to places like Africa and Peru, where she shared her love and compassion with those in need.

Charlotte leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will never be forgotten. She is survived by her children, Dr. Jay Nichols (Missy) and Lisa Pierce; seven grandchildren, Alisha (Josh), Logan, Lincoln, Landon, Jesinda (Brian), Jayden, and Jillian; and three great-grandchildren, Harper, Bennett Max, and Ganon. Her siblings, Pamela Nixon, Lee Cunningham, Jr., Keith Cunningham, and Kevin Cunningham, along with numerous nieces and nephews, will also remember her fondly. Charlotte was preceded in death by two siblings, Gary Smith and Debbie West.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Charlotte's life at her funeral service, which will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Leitchfield Funeral Home. Bro. Aaron Wilson will officiate this heartfelt ceremony, where we can all come together to reminisce and honor her memory. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 19, and again from 9:00 AM until the service begins on Thursday at the funeral home. After the service, Charlotte will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery.

We welcome you to share your memories and condolences online at www.leitchfieldfh.com. Let us remember Charlotte for the love, warmth, and joy she brought into our lives. She will be missed deeply, but her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
